A Story to Tell

The Theobalds Estate has an intriguing story to tell. With a history dating back centuries, the estate has been home to a grand 15th-century royal palace, a Georgian family home and a WWII military riding school before becoming a hotel in the 1990’s.

Although only established as a hotel at the end of the 20th-century, Theobalds Estate has long welcomed guests through its doors. Entertaining royalty as well as lords and ladies when it was a favourite country seat of King James I, and later Winston Churchill and Edward VII among other notable people when it was home to Victorian socialite, Lady Meux.

Today, the red brick mansion house that stands at the heart of the estate combines its original Georgian architecture with 21st-century style creating an eclectic mix of old and new that is perfect for events, weddings and rural retreats alike.
